Camp Paintrock – Where it all begins: Selected youth will travel to Hyattville, Wyoming, where they will spend four weeks at C5LA’s “Camp Paintrock.” This is where the foundation for the C5LA Program experience is built. The students are introduced to new surroundings, skills and experiences in a fun and safe camp setting, creating memories that will last a lifetime. The adventure-based program is meant to challenge the youth, moving them from their “comfort zone” into their “challenge zone,” and helping them prepare for any challenges that lay ahead.
This is not a one time program, but the beginning of something new, offering them a blank canvas to begin "painting/creating" their newly focused goals and aspirations. By removing them from their everyday lives and immersing them into a fresh, exciting, yet foreign environment, C5 youth can begin to learn in a completely different way, setting the course for a successful future.
Camp Paintrock and its facilities are located on 14 acres within a working cattle ranch that spans more than 7,000 acres. The camp runs two four-week sessions, offering the experience to two different groups of students each summer. The goal of the summer program is to bring the C5 youth back to basics. Surrounded by nature, the youth will define, build and support a community in which they will obtain a new appreciation for life, the environment, and the realization of new opportunities and horizons. Through the C5 “Leadership U.” curriculum, the youth will develop leadership skills in the area of: teamwork, organization, communication, confidence, independence, inter-dependence, trust, and self-esteem. While all of these experiences will take place in a "fun, camp environment," an educational element will also be built into the program teaching topics such as: social awareness, environmental awareness, geology, botany, equestrian skills, livestock and wildlife appreciation.
