Moving into junior year, this class explores colleges and campuses in the Bay Area and Central Coast of California and the cities that they may call home after high school. The College Tour provides an opportunity for our Leaders to begin thinking about what choices to make after high school and to begin to map a path for their future.

The fourth and final summer experience as participants, now going into senior year. This component provides an opportunity to address access to higher education in their community. Community Mapping

Community mapping is designed to build upon understanding of community space and the awareness of C5LA leaders of the multiple aspects of a community. The freshmen class practice identifying these variables, as well as identifying the community stakeholders. Through this exploration and assessment participants will begin to develop an awareness of their own community make-up and begin a dialogue about how to engage in one’s community.

Compass Service Day Pathway

In honor of MLK day, we have scheduled a community service event at John Muir High School in Pasadena. As several other classes have done, the Juniors will contribute to the maintenance of the school's community garden, clearing invasive plants, laying mulch and tending to other garden needs.

Step Into Success Pt. 1

C5LA Medallions will wrap up college and financial aid applications. Participants will need to come with all paperwork/information needed to complete these application. Participants will also explore connections between college majors and actual jobs and careers. In addition, we will introduce the opportunity to apply for the C.I.T. Program next summer and open up the opportunity for the C5LA Alumni Scholarship.

Session 1 and Session 2 comes together to share camp stories, give 3 second hugs, and reunite with some of your staff! In addition, we will create a high school action plan. As high school freshmen, you have four years to build your resume and make yourself competitive and attractive for colleges. We will be discussing what you need to do to get closer to being successful in your high school career.

College Day

One of the biggest events of the regular school year! College Day will be the culmination of the C5 Medallion class’s work over the summer. They will give presentations to LAUSD high school students about college access and the application process. Attendees also receive information and resources regarding financial aid and high school graduation requirements. The C5 Compass class will also attend, giving themselves an idea of they will do themselves next year.

All seniors meet at location Santee Education Complex (7:30a). Juniors in LA also meet at location. A bus will be provided for juniors in the valley, meeting at the Van Nuys/Sherman Oaks Recreation Center (7:45a). Reply by e-mail or call the C5 office to confirm your attendance (323) 686-4214.
